Born on December 6, 1938, in Ohio, Tom was the sixth of seven children to Michael and Maria Kamenca, immigrants from Czechoslovakia who instilled in their children the values of hard work, humility, and perseverance. He grew up on the family farm, where his mother managed the land and his father worked long hours in a glass factory.
After serving in the military, Tom built a life defined by craftsmanship, precision, and dedication—first as a skilled cabinet maker, then as an analyst. He married later in life to Rosemary, with whom he shared a love of travel until her passing. Though he had no children of his own, Tom was devoted to his family, especially his brother Bob and niece Andrea.
Tom spent most of his years in Arizona before moving to Oregon in his final four years to be near Andrea. He became part of a close-knit senior living community in Gladstone, where his kindness and love of college football (especially the Ohio State Buckeyes) won him enduring friendships.
He had a love for animals, a keen interest in the stock market, and an appreciation for good food. Tom was the last surviving member of his generation in the Kamenca family, preceded in death by his beloved wife Rosemary; parents Michael and Maria; sisters Hedviga and Annie; and brothers Mike, Ed, Paul, and Bob.
Tom’s life was one of integrity, humility, and steadfast love for the people and things that mattered most to him. May he rest in peace.
