Todd Alan Bjarnson, 29, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, March 24, 2013, at his home in Salem, Oregon. Todd was born on February 27, 1984 in Berkeley, California to Dennis and Vicki Bjarnson. The family moved from the Bay Area to Salem in 1987. Todd attended Pringle Elementary School, Judson Middle School, and Sprague High School. He went on to study Psychology and Business at Western Oregon University, graduating in 2006. After college, he attended graduate school at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine for one year.

Todd always had a great sense of humor and loved joking with friends and family. Summers spent with his cousins making rafts, fishing, camping, and making movies were very special. He loved playing the guitar, especially with his band, Jilted Spectrum. He continued playing and writing songs after high school and college. Throughout middle school and into adulthood Todd practiced Qi Gong and Tai Chi. He loved nature and collected rocks wherever he travelled. Other passions included video games, reading, writing, camping and fishing. Sahalie Falls and Clear Lake were always magical places for him. There he felt he could commune with Nature and find peace within himself. He worked in sales and tutored math for the No Child Left Behind program. His love of books led him into buying and selling textbooks.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Christina Coleman, his parents, Dennis and Vicki Bjarnson, a step brother, Chris Bjarnson of Atascadero, California and grandparents, Loyd and Betty McCallie of Lebanon.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Belcrest Cemetery in the Mausoleum Chapel. Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors. To leave audio or online condolences please visit

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice, Sprague High School, or a charity of your choice.

I am so sorry to hear about Todd. I will always remember all of us neighborhood kids riding our bikes playing cops and robbers for hours on end. My thoughts are with you Vicki and Dennis. Todd, you will be missed.

I had Todd in MANY of my classes at Judson and Sprague; got to know him. Todd was extremely intelligent and creative. I lost track of him after high school when we all tend to go our seperate ways. Had NO idea he was sick. I had a depression come over me when reading his obituary yesterday. The world will never be the same when it loses men like Todd. Peace be with you all until you get to see him again, someday.

Den and Vicki, my thoughts and prayers are with you with the loss of your precious son Todd. One of my favorite memories of Todd was when he was a toddler. I came to visit and he would just stare at me and then start giggling and laughing. Would have loved to know what he was thinking!! I found some of Todd's music on youtube. All my love in your time of sorrow, and always. Karin

Dear Uncle Den and Vicki:

No words will ever begin to tell you the grief that I personally feel over your loss.
Todd was a very special young man, and I was very proud to have him as my cousin!
My thoughts and prayers are with you, and please let me know if there is anything that I can do.

We knew Todd as he was growing up. He tried to teach us the guitar and was always kind and patient. He seemed wise beyond his years. We will miss him.

I rode the bus to school with Todd for years, and every once in awhile in high school he'd stop at the bus stop to give me a ride in his truck. Good memory of windows down, listening to Incubus as loud as possible. Todd, I'll always remember you as the funny neighbor kid. My thoughts are with your family.
