August 2, 1948 – May 19, 2025
Trilby Joyce Vachter, lovingly known as Joyce, age 76, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly at home on the evening of Monday, May 19th, 2025, due to natural causes. Born in Adair, Oklahoma, on August 2, 1948, she was the cherished daughter of the late Arzie and Margaret Brittain. Joyce was the ninth of eleven children and is lovingly remembered by her four surviving siblings.
Joyce shared 30 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Ron L. Vachter. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and simple joys.
Known affectionately as the “cookie lady,” Joyce brought smiles to many during her years working in the bakery at Roth’s Vista. She later continued spreading cheer while working in the floral department at WinCo, where her love of flowers and vibrant colors truly shined.
Joyce found deep happiness in the relationships she nurtured, especially while camping at Detroit Lake—a place she loved not just for its beauty, but for the cherished memories and friendships made around the campfire and picnic table. A loving, caring, and joyful soul, Joyce brought warmth and light to everyone she met. She touched many lives with her kindness, compassion, and generous spirit.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Ron; her children, Julie Connors, Jason (son) and Lacey Stark, and Scott (stepson) and Ruth Vachter; and six grandchildren who brought endless joy to her days.
A woman of unwavering faith, Joyce’s love for Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She lived each day with grace, compassion, and kindness, letting her faith guide her words, actions, and relationships. Her deep trust in the Lord sustained her through every season, and she reflected His love in how she cared for others. To know Joyce was to witness a life rooted in Christ—and she shared that love freely with everyone who crossed her path.
In accordance with her wishes, a small private service will be held for immediate family.
In honor of her generous heart and love for helping others, donations may be made in her name to Samaritan’s Purse (samaritanspurse.org) or Acres of Hope (acresofhopeyouthranch.org) - two causes that were dear to her.
