Bill attended Four Corners Grade School and graduated from North Salem High School. He ran the mile in track and, at one time, held the school record. As an Eagle Scout, he earned a trip to visit all lower 48 states. He was very proud of that. He went on to Trade School to become an auto and diesel mechanic. He loved helping his grandparents on their farms in Silverton and Macleay. He also helped his father Bill Sr. and his brother Bob build several homes in the Salem/Keizer area. He enjoyed frequently pointing these out to his children.
Bill’s early years were spent working as a top mechanic in the area for 25 plus years. He then was able to switch to his favorite occupation of farming when he moved out to the family farmstead in Macleay. He loved driving those tractors and planting those crops, raising cattle and pigs. If he wasn’t plowing, he was planting. He was an extremely hard worker and a regular “MacGyver” on projects.
His love for the outdoors was shared with his children, grandchildren and friends. He loved working with wood, carpentry, gardening, hunting, fishing and sharing stories about it. Bill also loved good fellowship. One of his favorite times each week was the time he spent on Friday’s with his friend Larry, either in front of the fireplace or out working on a project together.
Bill was preceded in death by Sandy Via, his wife (2000). He is survived by his sister Rose and Larry Rhoads, brother Bob and Karen Dunigan; his five children Donald and Laura Dunigan, Danny and Lanet Dunigan, Darcy and Greg Jennings, Dennis and Angela Dunigan, Derek and Jessica Farwell; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be announced at a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hed-fh.com for the Dunigan family.
