Bette B. Esch (92) returned to the loving arms of her Savior on Nov. 15, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents and has looked forward to being reunited with them. She is survived by a brother, Milton Backman, Jr. and her children: Melody Ann Peterson (Bob), Kerry Kathleen Bond (Bob), Patricia Ann Kessler (Duane), and Frederick H. Esch, Jr. (Holly), and her grandchildren, Richard Petersen, Michael Petersen, Suzanne Petersen, Ginger Waltenbaugh, Eric Kessler, Alexander Esch, and numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bette was a post-war bride and met the love of her life while working in the USO during World War II. After the war she and her husband moved around the country with the US Air Force, but Utah was always her home. Bette loved her family, her religion, and literature. She served in many capacities in the LDS church and was a proud 40 year member of the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers. She was also active in several social and literary clubs in St. George, Utah, where she lived for most of her life following the retirement and then death of her husband. Bette was an accomplished seamstress and cook, and always kept a beautiful home for her family. Later in life she collected beautiful Lladro figurines and delicate dolls which decorated her home in St. George.
Bette will be missed by her family and friends, although not too many of her wonderful lady friends in St. George are still around. She was afflicted with dementia in her last years and longed to be released from her failing body. We’ll miss you Mom but we are glad you are home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015at 11:00 AM at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. Interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
