Charles "Charlie" Vamianakis
Charles (Kyriakos) N. Vamianakis (“Charlie”) passed away at the age of 81. He was born in Cambous Chania, Crete, Greece, the son of Nikolaos and Agapi Vamianakis.
Charlie attended Dedalos trade school in Chania. He immigrated to the United States with his parents and brothers in 1956. Charlie attended high school in Salt Lake City, took engineering and technical courses and became a machinist by trade. He worked for Ajax Presses and Litton Industries, and for Bendix Corporation and Honeywell in Southern California. During his time in Greece, he made many friends and koumbari, and became the godfather to several children. Charlie was a devout member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, bowling, weight lifting and loved to travel. Charlie loved spending time with his family, friends, koumbari and godchildren. He loved his nieces and nephews like his own children, always encouraging them to get an education, and he was very proud of them. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Nikolaos and Agapi, and sister-in-law, Rosemarie. Charlie is survived by his brothers and their families: Michael (Violeta) (Mike (Anna)); Kosta (Maria) (Katina, Niko (Lane) Artemi (Jamie))(Xanthi)); John (Angela) (Johnny); and Jim; by his sister in Greece and her family: Artemis (Thodoris) (Roula (Manolis), Agapi (Nikiforos), Anna (Nikos), Maria (Kosta)); by several great nieces and nephews; and many koumbari and godchildren in the United States and Greece. Special thank you to John, Angela, and Johnny for all their years of love, support and care for Charlie, and to the doctors in California who cared for him (Dr. Nicholas Panagiotis), and to the amazing doctors, nurses, and staff at the Promise Hospital of Salt Lake. Charlie will be missed by all that knew him, including his family, relatives, and countless friends and acquaintances around the globe. Kalo taxidi, Charlie, (have a good trip). We love you.
