Deborah Lee Jensen-Haddow

Deborah Lee Haddow passed away on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019. She was born in Berwyn, Illinois and was raised in Arizona.

She attended Scottsdale High School and Arizona State University. She worked as a secretary, editor and proofreader. She was a freelance writer of general interest and humorous articles. She was employed by Harper and Row Publishing from 1980 to 1985. She was the co-editor of the Balanced Rock Review in Helper, Utah and was the publisher of the Scripps Mesa Eagle newspaper in San Diego, California. Deborah had many good friends from all over the United States, whom she kept in touch with. Her interests in life included her children, caring for children, animals, and the art of poetry. Her favorite novels were written by D.H. Lawrence and John Updike. She also enjoyed reading the books about Gerald Durrell and his life on Corfu Island. During her years in Utah, she helped many shelter dogs find their forever homes and her guinea pigs brought her many years of joy. She had great patience and sense of humor. She is survived by her husband, J. Arthur Haddow, daughter Catherine Goldman, her sons Richard Jensen and Marc Melaina (Jensen), step-daughters Casey Haddow, Toi Faciana and Alycia Peterson. She had 16 wonderful grandchildren; whom she loved the most. She is also survived by her sister Pam Wheelwright Fowler of Pinetop, Arizona and her former husband Richard Jensen of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend; who made life better and brighter for everyone.

Deborah’s Arizona Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February 4th, 2019 at the Mariposa Funeral Home located at 400 S. Power Rd., Mesa, Arizona. Utah Services and burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 8th at Wasatch Memorial Park, at the Vista East Section, located at 3401 S. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, Utah.

Debbie’s writing talent will always be a part of my fond memories of her. Growing up with her in Scottsdale cemented a lifetime friendship.
I will miss her calls, cards and letters. We could always encourage each other as moms solving
challenges. She could even make me laugh when I was sad. Some years ago she mailed me a copy of her poems and stories. So happy to have her writings and to hold her close. My heartfelt condolences to Art, Cathy, Pam and many other loved ones.
