July 11, 1931 ~ Feb. 16, 2014Our mother and grandmother, Dorothy Elene Johnson Peck or better known to her family as "Grandma Elene", passed away on February 16, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Elene was born July 11, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest of three children to Albert LeRoy and Donna Virginia Hammond Johnson, and always had fun memories to share of her childhood, her brothers Aaron and Blaine, Fenway Avenue and attending East High School, where she graduated. She married Charles Jesse Peck in June of 1952 and later divorced. Elene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Primary pianist, Ward Librarian and Visiting Teacher. She worked for Kaman Bearing for twenty years where she made wonderful friends. She later worked for the County where she retired. Volunteering for Cottonwood and IMC Hospital for 15 years, was a favorite past time. She was often awarded Volunteer of the Year for her hours of dedication. Elene was committed to whatever she said "yes" to and taught her children to follow that path. She enjoyed being around people and loved social gatherings. "Grandma Elene" was proud of her posterity and the front of her refrigerator was full proof, always adorned with family photos. Her 80th Birthday was probably one of her favorites as she was able to see and meet Jay Leno, who she had spent many evenings with in front of her TV. Elene loved animals, and gave monthly to the Utah Humane Society. Another love was of the sea and she decorated her home accordingly; with seashells, lighthouses and pictures of the ocean. Elene was preceded in death by a son who died at birth, Charles Kevin; her parents; Roy and Donna; and two brothers Aaron and Blaine. She is survived by three children Shauna (Dave) Hooper, Shane (Ranae), Randy (Susan) and her 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. We will miss our Mom and Grandma Elene, but know there are many on the other side of the shore who are saying, "Here she comes!" What a great reunion that must be. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. The funeral services will be held at Little Cottonwood 16th Ward, 6350 South Rodeo Lane, Murray, Utah on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior from 9:45 to 10:45. Interment will be held at the Mount Olivet Cemetery. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/saltlaketribune/obituary.aspx?n=elene-johnson-peck&pid=169749584#sthash.W2jroM0z.dpuf
