He was born at home on March 7, 1927 in Ogden, Utah to Henry Wilford Chandler and Irma Marie Daw Chandler. He was the 7th of 8 children.
He grew up on a large dairy farm in Nebraska where he learned to work hard. He graduated from Elm Creek High School in 1944. He went to work driving a bread truck with a route of over 100 hundred miles. In 1945 he joined the Merchant Marines and served until the end of 1946 when the war ended. At that time, he came back home and ran the dairy farm until he was called to serve in the Northwestern States Mission on June 7, 1947. He remained an avid missionary his entire life as well as a master scriptorian. Upon returning from his mission he was immediately called to work full-time for 6 months with the Denver Colorado States Mission President teaching the missionaries. After being released he went to work for Beneficial Life Insurance Company. It was at a company luncheon where he was introduced to the soloist, Bonnie Jane Shafer. They began dating and were married 4 ½ months later on September 1, 1950 in the Salt Lake City Temple. 9 months after marriage they were called to serve full-time on a Stake Mission by Elder Mark E. Peterson. He also served in the LDS church as Bishop’s Counselor, Bishop, High Councilman, Senior Couple missionary to Quezon City, Philippines, and a temple ordinance worker. He also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. The highlight of the last few years was a family reunion cruise to Alaska in 2014 where he caught the biggest Salmon.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I hope you can find comfort in the promise found at John 5:28, 29: "The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." Soon we will be with our loved ones again. Until this promise is fulfilled, please be assured of God's love for you and of his desire to support and comfort you during distressing times. (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4)
