Our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Electa Thompson Nelson, passed away July 22, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born July 1, 1927 in Clarkston, Utah to Kenneth and Peru Thompson. Electa was born into a community of extended family that she dearly loved. She learned the gospel from her Grandmother Jardine. She attended school in Clarkston and graduated from North Cache High School. Mom met dad, Donald Keith Nelson, at a Christmas dance in 1946. Following his mission, they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 1, 1949.
Mom and Dad made their home in Salt Lake City and raised four daughters. Electa enjoyed opportunities as a hostess at the Governor’s Mansion and the Relief Society Building. Mother was affectionately known as “Dabbie” by her grandchildren. She had great love for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She extended love to lifelong friends and had a very close relationship with her siblings. Her life was an example of service, love and patience.
Electa is survived by her four daughters, Melanie (Brent) Squires, Rebecca (Roland) Bernabe, Kathryn (John) Burrows, Shannon (Rick) Jones; sister Sylvia Hansen, brother Melvin (Lila) Thompson and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Don, parents, sister Faye Godfrey and brothers Rex and Joe Thompson.
Service will be held Wednesday, July 28th at 11:00 AM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
