Gene was born in Salt Lake City on June 13, 1931 to Eugene and Virginia Powell Sorensen. He met his sweet wife Colleen Jensen on a blind date and they shared 69 years of married life. Together they raised 8 children who are blessed to have them as their parents.
Gene lived a rich, full life. His working years were spent at Mountain Fuel Supply. He held a variety of positions within the company and made many friends there.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held various callings, one being scoutmaster for years where he helped many boys earn their Eagle Scout Award.
Gene could build or fix anything. All his kids knew if they couldn’t figure something out or needed help repairing something, all they had to do was call Dad. He knew how to fix it and was always available in a crisis.
He had a great knowledge of the outdoors. Camping, hunting, and fishing were things he loved to do. ln his younger years every weekend and vacation during the summer were spent in some remote area with a tent, fishing pole, and his wife and kids. The farther away from civilization, the happier he was. He loved running the Green River and many friends and family members got to share this experience with him.
Gene also was an avid reader and history buff.
After raising his family, he and Colleen spent years traveling the world through tours and cruises. They would often get off one cruise ship and hop right on another ship in that port for their next cruise. He enjoyed telling his family about these adventures.
He is survived by his wife Colleen, his children Becky and Preston Gunnell, Marvin and Terry Sorensen, Ken and Chris Sorensen, Brian Sorensen, Mike and Linda Sorensen, Aileen and Alan Pitt, Brooke Sorensen, Dale and Denice Sorensen; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Siblings Norman Sorensen and Rosalie Richards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Timothy, his sister Ellen, one grandson and two granddaughters.
