Francine Ruth Alvey Quinn Staker 1950-2017

Francine Ruth Alvey Quinn Staker passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 25, 2017. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend was born February 24, 1950, in Tooele, Utah to Raymond F. and Marjorie Clark Alvey. She was raised in Salt Lake City.

Mom married Rick Quinn on August 14, 1973. They had four children: Sarah (Mikel) Monsen, Victoria, Harrison and Jared Quinn. She remarried Alan Chandler and later Val Staker.

Francine received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Utah in Education. Her passion was teaching gifted and talented children. Mom defined her life helping those less fortunate. Her unconditional love, talents and abilities lifted up souls that crossed her path.

Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. Francine had a beautiful voice, enjoyed cooking, cherished playing the piano and riding her horse, Sarabou. In 1982 Francine was named Mrs. Utah and voted Mrs. Congeniality while competing at the national competition in Las Vegas.

Francine is survived by her children; her parents; two grandchildren: Kiera and Kai Monsen; and five siblings; Clark (Nan), Bert (Shelly), Marjorie Rae (Robert) Deeds, Rob (Jean), and David (Angela). She is preceded in death by her brother, John Alvey.

Fran's laugh could fill a room and her smile light it brilliantly. I loved to hear her sing and we could talk about horses for hours. She had the ability to make people feel loved and put them at ease. She was wonderful and dearly loved.
Our heartfelt sympathy to her children, parents, siblings, and friends.

I am so very sorry to hear of Francine's passing. Francine and I were best of friends for many years as we both participated in the Mrs Utah pageants as contestants and board members.
Francine and I spent many an afternoon shopping- discussing fashion (we differed often) Francine loving to glam everything up. We loved to discuss food, cooking and health. We loved talking about our children and travel. I was always in awe of Francine's flair - her ability to throw a party, her ability to be calm and composed.
Francine knew who she was and where she came from. On one drive she took me to the home she had grown up in. She told me all about her mother, siblings, grandmother - whom she thought she was like. She was proud of her heritage.
Francine loved beautiful things(I'll never forget her nutcracker collection) but it is her generosity I hope is remembered. Francine was generous to all. Loaning a dress or jewelry to someone in a pageant was normal for her. She would always give her time to any contestant that needed advise.
Again I am so sorry, Sarah, Victoria, Harrison and Jared. I doubt you remember me but I remember you and the love your mother had for you. I am sure you will miss your mom terrible. I hope you find peace in her memories that brought you happiness and in the knowledge that she is embraced in the arms of a loving Heavenly Father who knows her and her needs. My deepest, heartfelt sympathy to Francine's dear children and loved ones. She was truly a beautiful human being with a sparkling personality. Her kindness set her apart from many and is what I remember most about her. I was honored to crown her as Mrs. Utah 1982. Although I haven't seen her for more than three decades, I will always remember her fondly. My love and prayers go out to Rick Quinn and their children. Sincerely, Martha Huggins Bullock

Dear Alvey family and Quinn Kids,

Fran was my best friend from 8th grade through forever! I have not seen her for a few years but have many wonderful memories riding horses, cooking brownies, cleaning cabins, talking about life, dating, kids, and the gospel. The whole Alvey family has influenced my life from early teens onward. I love you all.

These last few years have been not much fun but there were many vibrant, beautiful years full of good times, adventure, challenges, and successes before that. She is a beautiful soul. She loved her children and her family intensely. She lived life intensely. I will treasure this friendship forever and have hope that we will have a happy reunion in a few years.

All my best to all of you.

Our hearts go out to the Quinn children. Know that your mom was very special. In our early years of marriage we were close friends enjoying vacations, even camping in the Tetons and so many dinners and long conversations.

Fran was a beautiful person and so unique, brought sparkle and style to any occasion or event that we spent together. We cherish and respect these old friendships and know how much she loved her children..
