Geraldine S. Edwards

owned by her parents, Ralph and Margaret Stander, a few miles west of Blackfoot, Idaho. She

grew up milking cows and helping with other farm chores. She loved animals.

She graduated from Blackfoot High School in the class of 1938. She graduated from LDS

Business College in Salt Lake City in 1940 and then worked as a stenographer. While attending

school in Salt Lake City she met Keith Eccles, son of Henry Price and Elizabeth Eccles. They

were married Sept 27, 1940. Keith served in the Pacific during World War II for three years.

For two of those years she was a secretary for the Utah Federation of Labor. She then bought

an 80-acre farm near Blackfoot, Idaho and raised potatoes the third year. When Keith returned,

they lived in Salt Lake City and then Bountiful, Utah.

Their son, Thomas Keith Eccles, was born in 1948. In 1952 they adopted another son, William

Carvel Eccles. Keith passed away in April 1953. Geraldine adopted another son, Alvin Ray

Eccles, in 1956. She married Herbert Jacob Edwards in December 1959. They lived in Bear

River City, UT; Willard, UT; Pocatello, ID; Inkom, ID, Ivins, UT; Payson, UT; Wallsburg, UT;

and Santaquin, UT. Herbert passed away in 1995. Geraldine moved to Houston, TX in 1997

and lived there until she passed away.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent

thousands of hours working on genealogy, both on her own lines and also doing genealogical

name extraction and indexing for the Church. She and Herbert attended temple frequently.

They also served as stake missionaries on the Fort Hall Indian reservation. She played the

piano well and often served as organist for their local Church ward.

She had a great capacity to love and care for little children. She and Herbert took in and cared

for 26 foster children while they lived in Idaho. They adopted three of them: Robert in 1968,

Mary in 1972, and Casey in 1973. Mary and Robert are deceased.

A funeral service was held for her in Houston on Thursday, Feb 28, 2013. She will be buried in

the Bountiful City Cemetery. Graveside service will be Monday, March 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m
