Our cherished mother, grandmother, relative and friend, Geraldine Huish Funk, has graduated from mortality and moved on to higher realms. After 94 years of loving everyone, her body just wore out. She passed peacefully in her home in Salt Lake City on October 1, 2017, surrounded by her children.
Geri was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lee and Ethel Viola Thomas Huish on September 10, 1923. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ralph, age 19 and her sister Merle, 5 months. She was raised during the Great Depression and money was scarce. But due to the tremendous love of her parents and her beauty, talent and congeniality, she thrived in school and with family and friends.
Mother married her sweetheart, Kenneth Christopher Funk on October 9, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her husband Ken graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. after which the couple moved to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania where Ken obtained a D.D.S. from the University of Pittsburg. They then returned to SLC, where Ken started his dental practice and they raised their family.
Our parents were sealed in the LDS Logan Temple in 1952. Geri was a very spiritual woman who loved God and served others. She had a powerful and abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She possessed a deep love and mastery of the scriptures, having memorized many of them. Everyone who knew Geri felt that he or she was her favorite. She was incredibly loving and nurturing and truly young at heart.
Geri was artistically gifted as an interior and clothes designer, seamstress and water colorist. She adored classical, sacred and romantic music, including opera. She had a soft spot for dogs and every dog she encountered instantly loved her. She was also a good writer and expressed herself eloquently.
She is survived by her four children: Linda (Doug Bowers), Sharon (Judd Sheranian), Christopher Funk (Pam) and Barbara (Michael John Kudlik.) She also left a posterity of 22 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
The family would like to express love and thanks to all of Geri's friends, relatives and to the doctors and nurses and dear hospice nurses who have loved and comforted her through her life journey.
