James Z. Davis, Jr., passed away on February 27, 2016, at home. He was born December 16, 1943, in Salt Lake City to James Z. and Blossom T. Davis. Jim is survived by his son, James Z. Davis III, daughter-in-law, Chrystal, granddaughter, Macey, loving companion, Paula Carr, and her daughter, Annie. He also leaves behind life-long friends Dave Roth and Jeff Paoletti.
Jim graduated from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1968. He served honorably in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. As a lawyer, Jim served in many capacities, including but not limited to, Deputy Weber County attorney, and as a managing partner with Ray, Quinney and Nebeker. Jim was actively involved in the Utah State Bar functions, serving as Bar President in 1991-92. Jim was appointed to the Utah Court of Appeals in 1993 by Governor Michael O. Leavitt. He retired from the court in November 2015.
Jim made everyone around him feel comfortable with his sarcastic, rye sense of humor. Jim was the best father and friend anyone could ask for. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Huntsman Cancer Institute or charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.evans-earlymortuary.com.
