James Mills, age 93, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 in West Haven, UT. He was born on July 11, 1920 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland, the son of Helen Donaldson and James Hall Mills. He married Christina Noble Rutherford Crawford, who preceded him in death in 2006, on June 23, 1944 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. He was sealed to her in the London Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on March 7, 1959.
Jim was raised in Leith, Scotland, attended the Salvation Army, served six years in the Royal Air Force including several years in combat in Africa and the Middle Ease during World War II. He worked as a foreman cooper in Leith. In 1960 he and his family emigrated to Geelong, Victoria, Australia, then in 1962 they emigrated to the United States. He lived in several locations including Glendale, California, Salt Lake City, Smithfield, St. George, and Ogden, UT. He and his family became American citizens in 1969.
He and Chris raised five children. They traveled around the world visiting dozens of countries during their many trips. Jim especially enjoyed the numerous sea cruises that he and Chris took in the Caribbean, to Alaska, in Asia, Europe, and off the west coast of Mexico. Converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1951, he particularly enjoyed singing in church choirs.
He is survived by his children Crawford Mills of Ogden, UT, Margaret Anne Louise Mills Fallis (Thom) of Atlanta, GA, Brian Mills (Julie) of Ogden, UT, and James Mills (Jo Ann) of Cedar City, UT. His daughter Christina Helen Mills preceded him in death in 2006. Jim has 21 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks is extended to Brian and Julie Mills, Crawford Mills, and James and Larissa Wayman, all of whom hosted Jim after the death of Chris, and to Margo Mills, Rowdy and Shauna Mills Hatch, and James and Jo Anne Homer Mills for their caring support. Thanks is also expressed to the staff at PeachTree Place Assisted Living Community, who were so kind to Jim during his last two years.
