Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 10, 2015. JoAnn was born to Gardiner and Wealthy Heywood on August 1, 1935 in Kanab, Utah. She married her husband Lynn on October 22, 1953. Lynn preceded her in death. JoAnn is survived by their three children, JoLynn (Kevin) Hadlock, Rick (Tammi) Hagen, and Karen (Steven) Fitt, and by her siblings, Ronald Heywood, Dorothy (Jim) Harman, Maureen (Lamar) Beatty, Roger (Candy) Heywood, Steve (Carol) Heywood, Vinetta (Orlo) Eyre, and Colleen Heywood. She has 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
JoAnn’s family was most precious to her. Her home was the family gathering place, a scene of many grandkid New Years Eve parties, Sunday evening get-togethers, and a favorite landing spot for friends (including many she didn’t know). She was our anchor, holding us together with love, the most amazing hand-made dolls ever, and the best fudge in the world!
JoAnn was a faithful member of the LDS Church, and served in many positions throughout her life. She had an abiding testimony of her Savior. Among her last words were her expression of love for her Heavenly Father, spoken while listening quietly to a Sunday Conference session. She spent her last nine years as a missionary at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple Square. JoAnn also worked at JCPenney for 17 years. In her spare time, she read, took long walks, sewed, and enjoyed being with friends. She is sorely missed by everyone who knew her.
A viewing will be held Thursday evening, April 16, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 17 at the Winder 8th Ward, 1361 E 4000 S, Salt Lake City, preceded by a viewing at 9:30 am.
