Keeyondra Yolanda Rose Medina

August 25, 2009September 10, 2020

Early Thursday, September 10, 2020, Keeyondra Yolanda Rose Medina, a loving, courageous, and caring daughter, sister, niece, and granddaughter returned home to our Heavenly Father at the tender age of 11.

Our precious Keeyondra was born on Thursday, August 25, 2009 to a loving, caring, and protective mother, Rocindy Chee, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Having been born with a heart defect, Keeyondra began her life with the odds already stacked against her. However, Keeyondra never let her health problems keep her from gaining an energetic, positive, and happy personality.

Keeyondra's endless energy never allowed her to miss the opportunity to dance, play pranks on her family and friends, and soaking in as much knowledge as she could at school. She liked to rummage through her aunties' and uncles' hidden snacks and replenish her own hidden stash, but her ever smirking face always gave her away.

Keeyondra's positivity and happiness always had her making new friends. She didn't like to see anyone unhappy, so she would activate her silliness in those situations. She never went a day without loving on her mom with hugs and kisses.

Keeyondra always made the best lemonade from the sour lemons she was given. She cherished every moment with all her heart by constantly taking selfies and random photos/videos of her surroundings. She took up the space on her mom's phone with these preteen hobbies. Unfortunately, her mom lost a good chunk of these memories when her phone broke recently.

Sadly, we will be laying our precious Keeyondra to rest starting with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2020 followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.

The services will be recorded and uploaded to be viewed Thursday afternoon at for any who are unable to attend the services.

Keeyondra we love you. You are a fun ball of energy. I enjoyed singing on the bus with you, playing with you and others in your class when we could get away from school work, and teasing your teachers. It was fun.
You always know how to make others smile and laugh. I remember your cute hand motions that you thought were so funny; always being playful. I remember you hauling up the ramp your big suitcase every day, full of things you rarely used . But we diligently brought it, every day.
You were a brighntness, sharing joy. Never judging, always accepting, and quick to forgive. You loved everyone around you and accepted them right away; no matter how they dressed or chose what to do, you loved them. May we all be more like you, follow your example of how you followed Jesus Christ. He is the light, and I picture you in His accepting arms. Arms outstrtched for all.
Keeyondra, you are deeply missed.

Keeyondra was a bright spot in the halls of our school ~ she was spunky and fun! I looked forward to seeing her dance moves, whenever there was music. Her energy and enthusiasm was contagious and her smile could light up the room. She will be greatly missed and my thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I met Keeyondra last fall while working at her school. I loved watching the way she helped her classmates - she knew all the routines and seemed to love taking on responsibilities to keep the classroom running smoothly and efficiently. My favorite memory was last Spring when we practiced a square dance. I felt honored because she chose me as her partner - I was so flattered and we had a great time doing the Virginia Reel. I will dearly miss seeing her smile!

I had the opportunity to work with Keeyondra for two years at Dilworth. There are too many memories to paint in this short document. Keeyondra was always so vibrant and full of energy. She was so willing to help me perform my nursing duties on her, while always giving me a good laugh at the same time. I saw her grow immensely throughout those two years I worked with her, and am really grateful for the joy she brought to our class. I will forever miss that sweet personality she had for everyone around her.

I want to offer my deepest condolences to Rocindy and the family. She will be missed dearly.

I had the pleasure of working with Kee on more formal aspects of communication but Kee was an amazingly effective communicator using gestures, her facial expression and body language. I never was confused about whether or not Kee disagreed with me. Her glare was powerful but her smile of joy was even stronger. I loved it when I came in to the classroom and Kee would greet me with her radiant grin. She always made me feel welcome, at least until we disagreed on her work with me. However, after demonstrating her disapproval, she would get back on task.
Kee was a vibrant, lively and delightful child and she will be greatly missed.

It has been a privilege to be Keeyondra's pediatrician since birth getting to know her and her mother well over the years. Rocindy did an amazing job with her and I will always remember her boundless energy , her smile and her big hugs. Love, Dr. Mary Burton :)

I had the joy of knowing Keeyondra from both a school district perspective and as a parent of one of her classmates. I loved visiting the class and always being welcomed so warmly by Keeyondra. Her smile always brightened my day.

My son, Luca, was in the class with Keeyondra last year as a kindergartner. Keeyondra loved to help him and took on a mothering role with him. She would carry his backpack out to the bus for him and she would try to cheer him up when he was having a difficult day. I have a video of Keeyondra playing peek-a-boo with Luca. When he watched it the other day, he laughed and laughed and kept requesting that I play it again.

We are heartbroken over the loss of Keeyondra and send our deepest condolences to the entire family. Keeyondra, thank you for brightening our lives and for showing us what it means to be resilient.

I was fortunate to be Keeondra’s teacher for some years at Dilworth. She was a delight to all; classroom staff and students, helpers, bus drivers and attendants, office and administrative staff, related services, music and PE teachers or as you can see just about everyone she came in contact with. Everyone knew her for the joy and enthusiasm she brought with her. She brought out laughter and smiles wherever she went. Thinking of Keeyondra will always make me smile and appreciate her joy of living in each moment.
