Our beloved mother, Lucile Barton Barnes was born on August 9, 1935 to Elsie and Tyler Barton. She was the youngest of 5 siblings, who have preceded her in death, Rex Barton, Jack Barton, Barbara Davis, and Joyce Austin. Survived by her son, Jeffrey David Barnes and daughter, Lisa Ann Barnes.
Raised in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City, Utah, she met our father, Edward Dale Barnes at the age of 21. Married in the Salt Lake City Temple, they had a supporting and loving marriage for 40 years, until the death of our cherished father, in 1996.
She was preceded in death by our 2 brothers, Michael Edward Barnes and Bradley Allen Barnes. Our mother’s faith and endurance was beyond comprehension. Her testimony of the Lord with the promise of seeing her children, husband, and all her loving family members again, became her beacon, source of strength and shining light.
She held many positions in the LDS Church in her lifetime. She was a faithful servant in the Salt Lake City, Jordan River and Bountiful Temple. She was a Relief Society President in the Holladay 2nd Ward and served a mission in London, England from 1995-1997. We have received so many heartfelt messages and memories of the impact she made on others, while she held these callings.
Our mom was a classy lady. Everything she touched, she made beautiful. She had the unique ability to see the potential in everything, including her home, garden, and everyone she met.
My mom and Dad built our family cabin in Brighton, Utah, which she also made beautiful. In the surrounding cabins, our aunts, uncles, and cousins were all a part of our childhood and young adult years in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Enjoying our cabin with family and friends, our parents also had a special celebration every year, in honor of our dad’s birthday, their friend’s birthdays and New Year’s. These celebrations continued over 20 years.
An avid pet lover, she adored her many cocker spaniels, and all the other family pets. Our mom was really fun and had a great sense of humor. She made us laugh about the craziest things. She truly was one of our very best friends.
While we will dearly miss her, we are so happy for her to rejoice in being reunited with our father, our brothers, and so many people she influenced and loved, and who deeply loved her.
