Mary Lou Dixon
February 10, 1930 – October 3, 2021
Our beautiful mother, grandma, and sister , Mary Lou Averett Dixon, age 91, joined her beloved husband, Roy, and many loved ones in Heaven on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Mary Lou was born February 10, 1930 in Provo, Utah to LaVon Young and Lew F. Averett. As the first of seven children, she learned to work hard, love and serve others.
At the age of just 16 years old, Roy discovered this dark eyed beauty and told his friend, "That's the girl I'm going to marry." On June 18, 1947 (74 years ago), Mary Lou became Mrs. Leonard LeRoy Dixon, married for Time and Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.
Together, mom and dad continued to work hard, share joys and trials together, and raise a wonderful family who all survive her today. Daughter s: Sherry Staten, Linda Brewer (Doug), Debbie Olson, Bonnie Morrill, Lori Kirk (Preston) and son, Mark Leonard Dixon. Twenty-two grandchildren and sixty-five great grandchildren will miss their fun "Candy-Gram" who remembered each one of them right to the end.
Beginning early in married life; in addition to raising a large family and attempting to keep a spotless home, she was employed. From ice cream parlors, swim schools, drug stores, College book stores, many retail outlets, and even assembly lines for missile propulsion systems (which required working a night shift till 2:00 AM)… Mother worked!
Family will remember Mom for her love of music, movies and laughter….Her childlike fascination with trinkets and Holiday decor….Her desire to help everyone have fun…trips, bowling, watching Jazz games, playing cards, going to lunch…and just being together.
Mother faithfully served as a Visiting Teacher and loved her neighbors and friends. She was part of many social groups including a long-time member of the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers.
She is also survived by sisters Janice Evans and Pam Calder and was preceded in death by her husband Roy, mother, father and siblings JoAnn Gardner, Marie Cole, Neil Averett, and Patty Mills.
The family would like to express thanks to those who served her. Especially Terri Treat, who kept her beautiful for so many years and Betty Streed, her "Ministering" Angel. Also, the many nurses who cared for her from lntermountain Hospice Care.
