In loving memory of a wonderful mother and loving wife, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary Alice Greene Moss was born in Harlem, New York on June 26, 1939 to Alva Dunford and Ruth Marjorie Beach Greene. She was a beloved first child with beautiful dark curls, the first of a family of five little women.
Mary Alice centered her life around her family, feeling abundantly blessed to have four wonderful children whom she raised with loving kindness in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She never took for granted the great blessing of being an American. Her main objective in life was to create a loving home to nurture her family and for her children to grow into all that they were capable of becoming.
She graduated from Boise High School as Charm School President and May Queen. She married Donald Evan Moss on April 29, 1957 in Winnemucca, Nevada, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple a year later. They have an eternal bond and Mary Alice spoke often of looking forward to being united once again with Don. They were married for 53 wonderful years before Don passed away on February 9, 2010. They were blessed with four children, two girls and two boys, and the gospel of Jesus Christ was paramount in their home. Mary Alice led her family with strength and faith, always sharing her love with others through her church callings and volunteering in her community. She sponsored four exchange students, three of whom lived in their home. She always had a soft spot for the youth and helped several through the unwed mother program. Her church callings included Primary President, Relief Society Presidency, Mutual President, Camp Director, Primary Teacher and just about every other calling. Together she and Don served in the baptistry in the Jordan River Temple. Don and Mary Alice felt especially blessed to serve together in the California Santa Rosa Mission. Mary Alice served as a service missionary at Temple Square and at the Conference Center.
Mary Alice set the standard as a domestic diva finding great joy in creating family traditions, cooking wonderful meals and travel adventures with her family. Her recipes for home cooked specialties were some of the original recipes used by the family as they started the Chuck-A-Rama Buffet. She also enjoyed needlecrafts. Our family treasures her many creations such as needlework Christmas stockings for all the grandchildren and other heirloom pieces. Together with Don, she shared a passion for University of Utah Sports, Jazz games and her grandchildren’s many sporting activities.
She leaves a legacy of faith and testimony to her four living children – Carolyn Moss, Duane (Peggy) Moss, Evan (Heather) Moss and Valerie (Todd) Crow, her 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. We will all miss her love, ready smile and contagious giggles. She was truly loved by all who knew her. We are thankful for the assurance that she is with her husband Don and that she is with her Savior, both of whom she loved so much. We know she is watching over us all and her loving example and giving spirit will always be a part of our family.
We wish to express a special thank you to the staff at Beacon Crest Assisted Living and to Natasha Clark. Thank you for the loving and kind care you gave to our Mom. We are so grateful for you.
