“Lee” Mildred Barrett peacefully passed away at age 84 on March 19, 2019 in South Jordan, UT after years of living with Alzheimer’s. Lee was born in Canon City, Colorado on April 27, 1934. In 1945 she was adopted as Mildred Stella Chesley and spent her early life in Westcliffe, CO where she lived with parents Myron John Chesley and Laura Elsa Maria Schulze and foster brother Kenneth Plant where the family owned and operated Chesley Village Motel (now Westcliffe Inn).
Lee always believed in gaining a higher education and attended University of Denver where she met “Cliff” Clifford Ivan Barrett, whom she married on June 18, 1954. Their life together would take them to multiple states with three children in tow. Lee worked hard as a mother of three to finish her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1981 from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
Lee was introduced to and eagerly joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1954. Lee spent many years giving dedicated service in several ward callings, in 2001 serving a two-year mission with her eternal companion Cliff in Vienna, Austria, and later served as a Salt Lake City Temple worker.
Lee was an avid hobbiest where she became skilled in china and water color painting, sewing, bowling, and card making. Some of her happiest times included traveling abroad with Cliff and other family members. She had a deep love of people and learning about different cultures. Lee had a heart full of charity and loved taking care of people. She spent a lot of time organizing service projects. It was common to have her invite strangers to family dinners and even lend a spare bedroom to someone in need. She was happiest at family gatherings where she would always start a card or board game to bring everyone together, usually ruthlessly winning every game.
Lee is preceded in death by her father and mother, youngest daughter Jaqueline Barrett Push and son-in-law Robert Push. She is survived by her loving husband, Clifford Barrett and children Vicki (Delbert) Call and Myron (Dawn) Barrett, 10 grandchildren and 17 ½ great-grandchildren whom she adored.
