Oscar Eugene "Gene" Magers Jr., caring husband, father and grandfather, passed away Friday June 8, 2018 at 91 years old. Gene was born December. 17, 1926 to Oscar Eugene Magers Sr. and Clara Atkinson Fox Magers in Salt Lake City. He married Lois May Meinhart at Memory Grove in Salt Lake City on January 14, 1948. They were happily married almost 50 years when Lois passed away.
Gene received his GED after joining the Marines at age 17, during WWII. There, he developed a love for aircraft engineering and maintenance which led to a long engineering career. He began working for Boeing Aircraft, heading up the team that wired the B-52 bomber, and then with Tooele Army Depot working on the Nike-Herc missile system where he excelled in many engineering advancements and training. His favorite position was teaching and training the new engineers. He also worked and retired from FAA, where he maintained the mainframe computer for the Federal Air Traffic control center.
Gene was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, and his dirt bike. He also loved going on outings and vacations with family and friends. He was a "Jack of all Trades" and excelled in auto mechanics, wood working, welding and plumbing.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Lois; his son, Gregory Eugene; his daughter, Debra Ann (Hans) Ruitman; and his siblings, James Edward Magers, Jesse Ray Magers, Erma Lucille McCoy, and George Earl Magers. Gene is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Bill) Gowans, and Gail Anderson; his sister, Clara Louise Miller; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Gene's funeral will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018, 1 pm at the Winder Fourth Ward, 951 East 3825 South, SLC, Utah, with a Viewing from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm. Gene will be interred at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, SLC, Utah.
