Robert James Williams (Bob) passed away in the early morning of August 17, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bob was born on August 17, 1921 in St. Ignatius, Montana, but spent most of his growing up years in Salt Lake City where he attended South High School and the University of Utah.
At age 21, Bob volunteered for the United States Army Air Corps during World War II where he flew many successful missions and served his country valiantly until his honorable discharge.
Bob married Barbara June Richins in April 1943, in Fresno, California. After the war, they made their home in Salt Lake City where Bob continued his education and began working for the Salt Lake Tribune as a copy boy. He worked his way to the position of Executive Sports Director at the Tribune and later moved to Washington D.C. where he worked as the Night City Editor of the Washington Post and later, became a Sports Editor. He edited most of the material that was printed by the Post during the Watergate scandal.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, his sons, Robert Jr. (Victoria) of Danville, CA; Ridgely of St. George, UT; Randall (Beverly) of Long Island, NY; four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
We will miss the great stories he told and the spirited debates Bob loved to initiate.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 So. Highland Drive, SLC, UT. A visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Condolences may be made to www.wasatchlawn.com
