

Ross Robert Borders, Jr., dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, “brother”,uncle, “uncle”, friend, teacher, wit, historian, geographer, book aficionado, classical music enthusiast, non-judgmental listener, observer of the human species, dog lover, chicken hater, and all-around good guy passed away July 6, 2014 culminating 83 well-lived years.
Ross was born in San Diego, California to Lt.-Comdr. Ross R. and Evelyn Borders. His childhood was that of a well-traveled “navy brat” until his family settled in Georgia where Ross spent his high school and college years. In 1964 he married the beautiful and brilliant Margaret Ivey. Ross was a high school football coach and elementary school principal for four years before moving to Utah where he began his 34-year career teaching history and geography at Kearns Jr. High. After only 20 years of marriage, Margaret passed away leaving Ross to finish raising their six children ages 18-8. In 1984, Ross married Virginia Hecker and they lived in nearly-perfect harmony for 30 years and 41 days.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, Ross leaves behind his children: Susan Yerkes (Steve), Ross R. (Bo) Borders III (Stephanie), Cheryl Jex (Cory), Lisa Lewis (Bill), Shelley Borders (Dan Black), Kelley Braithwaite (Darren); 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother Ernie Borders (Enid).
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 10th at 11:00a.m. at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, where friends may visit with family from 10:30 to 10:55a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ross’s name to a charity of your choosing.
