Sue B Bowlin

Sue Bennett Bowlin passed away May 6, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on November 25, 1933. She married Robert C. Bowlin in Indiana on June 6, 1953, who passed away on August 15, 1994. They were the parents of James B. Bowlin of Silver City, NM, and Tacy A. Hartman of Salt Lake City, UT. Sue was passionate about theater. She studied acting in the 1960s with acclaimed drama coach, Anthony Mannino, artistic director of Drama Tree in NYC. She went from acting to directing and producing many plays primarily in Saratoga and Schenectady NY, where she had her own New World Theater. She continued to direct plays after she and Bob moved to Boston and then Cape Cod, mostly in Boston and Provincetown. Sue was brilliant and creative, had a winning personality and made and kept many dear friends. She also had strong political views, and wrote numerous letters in support of conscientious objectors against the Vietnam War. She loved to travel and spent many months in Florence, Italy, and was a significant art collector. Sue is survived by her sister Sara Clark of Indiana, her son and daughter, her beloved grandchild, Lydia C. Hartman of Salt Lake City, nieces and nephews and some very good friends. She will be greatly missed. Informal services will be held at 10:00 am on May 26 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
