

Adelle D. Whitt, 95, of Rio Concho Terrace passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2011. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2011 in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Dr. Mark Bumpus, minister of the First Baptist Church of San Angelo, officiating under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whitt was born near Veribest, Texas to the late William A. and Hattie B. Davis on June 1, 1916. She and her late husband, Clarence L. Whitt, were married on July 3, 1937 in San Angelo. She was an honor student and graduate of Baylor Academy and attended Mary Hardin Baylor University, Angelo State University and took a special course in Records Management through American University in Washington, D.C. She retired from General Telephone Company of the Southwest as File Methods Administrator. She was always intensely involved in her work, credit union, church, civic affairs, and keeping in touch with her many friends. She was a tireless volunteer for the Credit Union Movement in the late forties and fifties in addition to her secretarial job. She organized seven credit unions.
While residing at Rio Concho Terrace for the past 20 years, she enjoyed spending many hours playing bingo, bridge and 42 with her dear friends, and she was also an avid football fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Adelle was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she was a devoted member of the Vota Vita Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Pocahontas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Concho Valley Telephone Pioneers, and NARFE. She was a past President of the San Angelo B & PW Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Whitt and two nieces, Wanda Whitt Woods and Josephine Davis Wallace.
Survivors include her beloved brother, J.P. Davis of Evans, Georgia and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her family would like to express their thanks to a special niece Dorla Whitt Sparks who has always been there for her with love and support.
