Our precious Memaw left her earthly confines and went home to our heavenly daddy on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Dancer of many a song, hugger of many a neck and lover of every heart and soul she encountered?our Memaw knew no stranger. If you called her by her first name (even if she just met you), she would correct you and tell you to just call her Memaw. Memaw was born in Georgetown, Maryland, on June 12, 1932. She grew up and lived in the Washington, D.C, area until she met our Pepaw, Ray Field, at a USO dance in 1952, and they married shortly thereafter. She was the second of seven kids, two brothers and four other sisters, and loved her family with all of her heart. Memaw absolutely loved to sing and dance, with many of her favorite songs always on the tip of her tongue, only to eventually bust out in an impromptu dance or song fest. She was also very playful and loved a good prank. Don't let the cuteness fool you...she was a little stinker too...and loved being so...as did we. She was also a die-hard Redskins fan and had a lot of fun making bets with her brother, who still lived in Redskins territory...but was a die-hard Cowboys fan. Some people just never learn. But Memaw had one, and only one major passion - her family - especially all of her grandbabies and great-grandbabies. The days and hours she got to spend with the kids were her favorite moments and while with them, nothing else mattered. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her daughter, Darlene; her son, Wray; her parents, Clarence (Stump) and Estelle; her brother, Donnie; her sister, Dottie; and a grandson, Tim. She is survived by her siblings, Lou Sims and her husband, Joe, Patty Yeates, Sandy Fultz and her husband, Gary, and Tommy Saylor; her kids, Demo McMinn and husband Scooter, Robert Field, and Carol Pope and her husband, Scott; grandkids Dawn Jackson and her husband, Rick, David McMinn, Krysta Kiser, Mathew Wilde, Jeramy Couvion and his wife, Heather, Scotty Pope and his wife, Madison, and Jordan Green; and all of her "babies" that were her world: great-grandkids Jacob Moore, Danielle Jackson, Bryce Barrigan, D.J. McMinn, Marcus Veliz, Cyera McMinn, Camren Veliz, Steven Bond, Sylas Robertson, Briley Pope, August Pope, Cayzlie Pope and the triplets, Sterling, Scarlett and Sofia Couvion; and all of her nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Rick, David, Mathew, Jeramy and Jordan; and great-grandson Jacob; with honorary pallbearers being her youngest great-grandsons, Bryce, D.J., Marcus and Camren; and great-granddaughter Cyera. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nancy and Jesse Snider, Interim Hospice, Cedar Manor's Special Care, Cita Moreno, Becky Miller and Christina (her very special hospice caregiver). The rest of the family would like to add a side note and thank Demo McMinn, Memaw's oldest child, for taking such amazing care of her over the past several years. You are such an incredible blessing to this family and we know without a doubt that Memaw knew she was always in good hands and was so dearly loved by you. We thank you so much for everything you do and want you to know how much we love and appreciate you and all you do. Can we get an amen? Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, at The River Church, 2412 College Hills Blvd. in Park 2400, with graveside following immediately after in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
