

Bobby (Bob) Fletcher Fail, resident of San Angelo for many years, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013. Bob had just celebrated his 90 birthday, having been born on June 2, 1923, in Hawley, Texas, as the son of H.C. and Odessa Fail. He and Robbie Lou Johnston were married on Sept. 22, 1945, in O'Brien, Texas, beginning 63 years of marriage. Bob graduated from Hardin Simmons University in 1945, and Southwestern Theological Seminary in 1955. As an ordained Baptist minister, Bob served in several Texas churches including Benjamin, Megargel, New Hope and Wichita Falls. From 1958-1961, they served as Southern Baptist Home Missionaries in Redlands, Calif. In 1961, Bob began his career as a sixth grade teacher, Gra-Y football coach and bus driver at Bradford Elementary School, San Angelo, Texas. After receiving his master's degree in education from Sul Ross State College, he served as Lakeview Elementary School coordinator until 1969. After two years in Corona, Calif., they moved to Grapevine, Texas, where Bob served in several capacities including superintendent. Bob and Robbie retired in 1985, and moved back to San Angelo where they were active members of Southland Baptist Church. For several years, Bob sent out the email prayer sheet for the Friendship Class and enjoyed visiting class members in the hospital and in nursing homes. He was a well-respected man of God who was loved by all who knew him. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife. He is survived by two daughters, Jenny Lind Fail Eubank and her husband, Robert, of San Angelo, Texas, and Juliana Fail Mathews of Fort Collins, Colo. He is also survived by five grandchildren and their families, Dr. Darrell Eubank and his wife, Terri, and their two daughters, Emily and Mackenzie, all of Grapevine, Texas, L. Glenn Eubank and his wife, Chrissy, and their two children, Christian and Halle, all of San Angelo, Dr. Jay Mathews of Dayton, Ohio, Anna and Ethan Mathews of Fort Collins, Colo. Bob is also survived by one brother, LTC (Ret.) Eulan Thomas Fail of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and his two daughters and family, Laura Shaffer and her husband, David, and their sons including Scott and his wife, Courtney, Ian and Colin of Arvada, Colo., and Sarah and Jeff Dimond of Roswell, Ga. He is also survived by a sister-in-law and her husband, Launa and Alton Hester of Panhandle, Texas. Extended family include Mary Dell and R.D. Barron, Kevin and Lisa Barron and family and Ricky and Paula Barron and their family. Family visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Johnson's Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. and burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens afterwards. Pallbearers will be Joe Favor, Dr. Gail Flood, Marvin Hall, Dr. James Herbert, Tommy Hiebert and James Maedgen. Honorary pallbearers are the Friendship Class of Southland Baptist Church.
