Charlie was the first-born child of Carlos and Orosia Mijares. He was born on November 11, 1948, in San Angelo, Texas. The family moved to Snyder, Texas, where Charlie spent his formative years. Some of his favorite times were spent with his Uncle Ruben enjoying outdoor activities together in Hobbs, Texas. In high school, Charlie was active with the Snyder Tigers baseball team. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1967. He always relished his class reunions with a spirited group of former classmates. Having moved back to San Angelo after graduation he attended Angelo State University. Charlie married Rosalinda Garcia in 1969. Of this union, were born two sons Carlos G. Mijares III and Gregorio Mijares.
Charlie was well known in the San Angelo area where he recently retired from Jim Bass Ford and the Bass Bunch. He was a former member of the South Side Lions Club and served on the Lake Nasworthy Advisory Board. Charlie was an avid golfer, loved to fish, and was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. He spent his time off with family and friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Teresa Mijares, as well as by the mother of his sons, Rosalinda G. Mijares.
Those left to treasure his memory are Charlie’s two sons, Charlie (Carrie) Mijares and Gregg Mijares; grandchildren Sophia, Alaina, Julian, Jaylen, Isaac and Gregg; his three sisters Nita Rodriguez of San Angelo, Mary (Fred) Perez of Sonora, Texas and Liz (Bill) Metcalfe of Waco, Texas; and a special uncle, Ruben (Alice) Mijares of El Paso. He is also survived by his former wife Janie Grimaldo and her children, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Charlie was a supporter of San Angelo Food Bank, Meals for the Elderly, and St. Jude’s Hospital for Children. Donations may be made to one of those charities. The family thanks Shannon Hospital and staff along with the Jim Bass family for their support.
