Carolyn J. Winger was born Jan. 7, 1937, in Franklin, Pa., to the late T. R. McCoy and Lillian M. Seamon of the Real McCoy Cabins. Carolyn grew up in Wyatteville where she attended Rocky Grove High School and met the love of her lif,e Edward Winger of Reno, Pa. They were married in St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Oil City and began a wonderful journey that lasted 57 years. Carolyn was a devoted Air Force wife and traveled the world with her husband and three children. Upon their retirement from the Air Force, Carolyn and Ed fell in love with San Angelo, Texas, and this became their home. Carolyn was a devoted housewife and mother, and was a mother to many neighborhood children, who she enjoyed cooking and baking many goodies for over the years, especially her homemade cherry pies. Carolyn had goals and dreams of her own and graduated from Howard's School of Nursing in 1975 as an LVN. She worked with Dr. Chang and the staff at Baptist Memorial until her retirement in 2002. She was known for her compassion and genuinely loved people. Carolyn practiced God's greatest commandment, "Love one another, as I have loved you." Her generosity knew no bounds. Carolyn was an incredibly brave and strong individual, which was abundantly clear at the end of her life here on earth. Carolyn was a woman of faith and love and passed these feelings on to all she came in contact with. Carolyn enjoyed her grandchildren, music, dancing, going to the movies, China Garden's, Hoffman's Bakery and Bealls, which she would say, "I'm going shopping to Baby Bealls." Carolyn had a wonderful sense of humor and kept her family in stitches. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ed Winger; son Stephen E. Winger; children Kayla and Zak; son Mark T. Winger and wife Peggy; children Amber, Mayln, Kalen, Jared and Terrance, all of San Angelo; daughter Deborah A. Nennich and her husband James; children Michael, Christen and husband Shawn; and their two children Coleton and Areena, all of Silver City, N.M. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved grandson Taylor. Our family would like to thank Dr. Chang and his staff, the staff at Shannon Hospital, Becky and the staff at Shannon's Rehab, the staff at Arbor Terrace and Hospice of San Angelo for all of their love, care and prayers. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of San Angelo and the American Cancer Society . Memorial service is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Johnson's Funeral Home chapel. Burial will take place in a private ceremony on the family ranch in Tennyson, Texas.
