

Cecil Templeton, 89, of San Angelo, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 18, 2013, in San Angelo. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with Tommy King officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Cecil was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Knickerbocker, Texas, to Sylvester and Fannie Denton Templeton. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II in the 134th Field Artillery and was later called back to duty during the Korean War in the 330th Field Artillery. Cecil married Lucy Jean Clark on Feb. 22, 1947, in San Angelo, Texas, and they shared 66 beautiful years together. He worked as a supervisor and manager in the sorting and packing department at Monarch Tile and retired from there after 35 years. Cecil was a very strong believer in giving back to the community and country and because of this he was very active as a volunteer in the San Angelo community. He was instrumental in establishing and volunteering at the San Angelo Food Bank for numerous years and volunteered with numerous organizations. This awarded him the very first Jefferson Citizen of the Year Award. Cecil had an organization that was very dear to his heart which was the Lions Club of San Angelo. He held numerous offices and served as governor from 1987-1988. Cecil was also a proud supporter of the Children's Lions Camp. Cecil also volunteered with the EISC and travelled to several countries in Central America helping to establish trades for the people in communities to better support themselves. When Cecil wasn't volunteering, he was enjoying having coffee or playing golf with his buddies. He was a longtime member of Johnson Street Church of Christ. Cecil was a loving husband father and grandfather who devoted his life to his family and community and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him and those whose lives he touched. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving family: wife Jean Templeton of San Angelo; his children, Betty Keeney and her husband, Don, of San Angelo and Perry Templeton and wife Kay of Houston; his grandchildren, Jennifer Hoelscher and husband Keith of San Angelo, Jayland Keeney and wife Adria of The Woodlands, Brandy Davis and husband Jason of Garland, Brad Templeton and wife Nicole of Conroe, Craig Dehnel and wife Laura of San Angelo and Christi Duckworth and husband Brad of Georgia; his great-grandchildren, Kanton, Katie, Logan, Corey, Andrew, Cole, Carter and Cameron; and his sister, Gladys Nichols. Pallbearers for the service will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be the members of the Lions Club of San Angelo.
