

Born to Charles Thomas and Anna Lee Peterson Rainey in Mesa, Arizona on December 23, 1925. After the deaths of his parents, he was raised by relatives in San Angelo. He was a graduate of San Angelo High School and Texas Tech College with a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry. He served in the Navy in 1943, traveled aboard attack transport which carried invasion troops and weaponry. He was in the invasion of Okinawa and the Philippines. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946.
Charles specialized in appraisal work since 1953 and was an Accredited Rural Appraiser and a Senior Residential Appraiser. He ranched in Kimble, Menard and Tom Green counties for several years. He handled appraisals for the Twin Buttes dam project, the Proctor Reservoir in Comanche County, Lake Amistad Dam project, and the Devil’s River wing of the international lake. He appraised for the Texas Veterans Land Board, the Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of Justice, the General Services Administration, the state and federal highway agencies, for law firms and individuals.
He also served as president of San Angelo Board of Realtors, president of Property Evaluators, president of the Chicago Society’s San Angelo chapter, president of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and Vice president of the Texas Society of Farm and Ranch Managers and Appraisers.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lindon and Thomas Rainey. In 1946 he married Jean Thrace “Missy” Rainey and together raised three sons, enjoyed watching them marry and bless them with seven grandchildren until her death in 1996. Charles later married Jean Williams who died in 1999. Charles is also preceded in death by two of his sons, Charles Gordon Rainey and Robert Rust “Rusty” Rainey.
Surviving Charles is his son, David Dale Rainey and wife Sue; their children Sarah Christine “Christy” Vick and husband Nathan and William Matthew Rainey. Also surviving are daughters-in-law, Sharon Rainey Alexander, Sherri Rainey, and Lori Williams Francks; son-in-law Larry Williams; grandchildren Charles Dustin Rainey and wife Tammy, James Brandon Rainey and wife Haik, Rachel Ann Rainey, Robert Dale Rainey and wife Tara, and Rebecca Rust Rainey Tate and husband Justin; and eleven great grandchildren.
Mr. Rainey had a wonderful life with family and friends traveling, hunting, ranching, relaxing many weekends at the farm along the Concho river and gatherings with the family. Charles also enjoyed his friends of the Tuesday lunch bunch.
