Clara Belle Gordon

Clara Belle Powell Gordon, 78, of San Angelo passed away on January 28, 2014. Clara was born on May 28, 1935 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Clark Leonard and Zelma Allene (Spencer) Powell. In October, 1955, Clara married the late William Thomas Gordon, Jr. M.D. in Gainesville, TX while on their way to Dallas for the OU/Texas football game. Both were avid Sooner fans. Bill preceded Clara in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Fred Harvey Powell and sister Bonnie Lou.

Clara, a Registered Nurse, enjoyed life to the fullest. She was an accomplished Bridge player having achieved Life Master status. Her hobbies included camping, boating, cooking, sewing, dancing and tennis. Clara was known for throwing incredible tea parties and dressing to the " nines" . She was fortunate to have traveled the world extensively.

Clara was a member of the Colonial Dames XVIIC, where she was past President; the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she was past Regent of the Pocahontas Chapter; the Medical Auxiliary, where she was past President and Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Survivors include Richard William Bills, Sr. whom she fondly called " Mr. Bills"; daughter Linda Cummins and her husband Tom; granddaughters Caroline and Katie; son William Gordon, III and his wife Victoria; sisters Maxine B. Martin and Dorothy Gibson and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack Henry, Brett, Jesse and Amber Bills will also miss Clara's presence in their lives. Mom (Nana) will be greatly missed, forever loved and always remembered for the legacy and memories that she leaves behind.

Our family would like to thank the caregivers that made Clara's call Home as comfortable and pain free as possible.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 19 S. Oakes St. in San Angelo, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the West Texas Boy's Ranch, Fort Concho or the charity of your choice.
