He was born in Ranger, Texas on April 17, 1922. He was one of eight children born to Jesse and Minnie Springer and he attended White Oak, Texas schools and Kilgore Jr. College. He proudly served in the Army Air Corp where he was stationed in Alaska and was honorably discharged on January 28, 1946. While working for Shell Oil in Midland, Bud met his best friend Elizabeth (Betty) Baldwin. They married on June 4, 1949 and were married for 64 years. Bud and Betty were blessed with a son, Ron, and daughter, Donna. Bud was working for National Supply when he decided to move to San Angelo and enter business with his father-in-law, R. L. Baldwin. Bud retired after working at Angelo Automotive on Concho Street after 30 years.
He enjoyed his retirement by joining his friends for morning coffee, volunteering at Shannon Hospital, and exercising with the “early crowd” at Shannon Wellness Center. He was an active member of the St. Luke Methodist Church’s CIHU Sunday School Class and a very involved “Papaw” to his four grandchildren. Bud always had a smile on his face and an unforgettable laugh. He was a joy to his family and friends and especially loved by his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, son Ron (Melinda) Springer, daughter Donna Elizondo, and grandchildren, Grant (Meghan) Springer, Sara Springer, Lauren (Robert) Renz, Leslie (Barry) Adams and great granddaughter Sophia Renz.
The family would like to express special thanks to Pauline Norwood and Betty Taylor at Myrtlewood Estates and the nursing staff at Regency House.
The family will receive friends at the visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 29th, at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
