Services will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 3536 YMCA Drive, San Angelo, Texas, at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, June 8, 2013. The service will be officiated by Pastors Robert Budewig and Randall Wehmeyer. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens and will be directed by Johnson’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 to 8pm on Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Johnson’s Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard Ave in San Angelo.
Cornelia was born January 18, 1905, in Coryell City, Texas to Emil and Elsbeth Gohlke. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Coryell City and confirmed in Clifton Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a very devoted life-long Lutheran and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of San Angelo at the time of her death.
Cornelia served as secretary for the Waco Packing Company and then continued her career as a school teacher. She married Albert Schulz of Eola, Texas, on May 2, 1934 in Clifton, Texas. They lived and farmed at Eola until 1951, when they moved to San Angelo to make their permanent home. They also ranched in Sonora, Texas and loved to spend time there together and with family and friends. Her husband preceded her in death on September 30, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Gohlke of Clifton, Texas, two brothers Herman and Rudi Gohlke and three sisters Gertrude Karcher, Olga Schulz and Alice Lowke.
She had no children, but her 16 nieces and nephews, the children of her five siblings, all considered her their second mother. Surviving nieces are Helen Schulz of San Angelo, Virginia Becker of Lago Vista, Gladys Hobratschk of Littlefield and Edith Bourland of Houston. Surviving nephews and spouses are Richard Lowke and wife Wanda of Austin, Joe Lowke and wife Pam of Austin, Robert Lowke of Tampa, Florida, Hubert Gohlke and wife Mary Helen of Farwell, Ernest Gohlke and wife Annette of San Antonio. Deceased nieces are Alice Bauer, Mildred Twenhafel, and Gevonne Knippa. Deceased nephews are Bill Lowke, Arthur Gohlke, Clarence Karcher and Eldon Gohlke.
She is also survived by 37 great, 66 great great and 11 great great great nieces and nephews.
Cornelia was always willing to lend a helping hand as a volunteer and member of many local organizations. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Evening Guild; a member of the San Angelo Garden Club and a Patron Member of the San Angelo Symphony. She also served as flower chairperson at her church and delivered flowers to shut-ins and Nursing Homes. Cornelia also had a love for travelling.
She will be greatly missed by both family and friends. She brought much joy to those who knew and loved her.
Pallbearers will be Joe Becker, Hubert Gohlke, Robert Lowke, Richard Lowke, Joe Lowke, David Becker, Gary Knippa, and Ernest Gohlke.
Mrs. Schulz and her family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff and personnel at the Regency House in San Angelo, the doctors and nurses associated with her care, supporting staff and volunteers of Lighthouse Hospice who kept her comfortable.
