SSGT Darrell A. Elliott, Ret. USMC

Darrell Arnold Elliott, age 80, passed away peacefully at the Robert Lee Care Center on August 7, 2026. Born on February 28, 1946, In Rock Island, Illinois, Darrell spent his childhood and formative years in Las Vegas, Nevada, before dedicating his life to military and public service.

A man of honor, courage, and selfless devotion to his country, Darrell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 26, 1963. Following his initial honorable separation on January 23, 1967, he graduated from the Western Illinois Law Enforcement Academy and served as a dedicated Deputy Sheriff in western Illinois. Answered once again by his deep patriotism, Darrell reenlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 13, 1968. He served two distinguished tours of duty in the Vietnam War, earning the Purple Heart alongside numerous medals and citations for his bravery under fire.

Throughout his life, Darrell remained committed to supporting his fellow veterans, serving with pride as Commander of VFW Post 1815. In his leisure time, he was an avid golfer who cherished quiet afternoons on the greens. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Darrell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie Elliott; father, Rubin Garmon; and mother, Delores Garmon.

He is survived and deeply missed by his loving daughters, Doris Castillo and Michele Blackmon (Robert); his in-laws, Gene and Virginia Benthusen; his five cherished grandchildren; his five precious great-grandchildren; his siblings, Michael Elliott, Arlie Garmon (Pam), Pamela DuPont (Ken), Tim Garmon, and Cheryl Garmon Au (Kipp); along with extended family and dear friends.

Visitation will be held from 11 AM - 3 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Darrell's life, legacy, and military service.

Interment with military honors at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois will occur at a later date.
