

Gene attended Regan County High School and graduate in the class of 1948. He served in the Army from August 1944 to October 1946. Gene began his career in the oil field, working for Big Lake Oil Company and later Marathon Oil Company as a mechanic and supervisor.
Gene married Bobbie Jo Sandy on January 10, 1952 and had three children. Gene was a proud member of the Southland Baptist Church and Community Medical Center Auxiliary. His passion was for fishing on South Padre Island at the annual Cook family reunion and his love of dominoes. Gene will always be remembered for stopping any man, woman, or child to pull a quarter out of his ear or read their mind. This brought him as much joy as it did to the recipient.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jo, parents Claude and Olive Cook, step mother Hazel Callaway, brothers Bernard, Wayne, Ray and Stanley, and grandson Alex Cook.
Gene is survived by half brother Coy Cook, son, Carl Cook (Tonie), daughters Cathy Rollins and Candy Williams (Nate); grandchildren Cortney Cook Blue (Morgan), Nathan and Matthew Williams and Chad Strader, great grandchild Skyler Cameron Blue.
A visitation for Gene will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 W Beauregard Ave, San Angelo, Texas 76903. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM 1223, San Angelo, Texas 76905.
In lieu of flowers, the Cooks asks that you make a memorial donation in Gene's name to Southland Baptist Church, 4300 Meadow Creek Trail, San Angelo, TX 76904; American Cancer Society, 3228 College Hills Blvd, San Angelo, TX 76904; Meals for the Elderly, 30 E. The family would also like to thank New Haven Assisted Living and St. Gabriel's Hospice of San Angelo for their compassion and care they provided Gene.
