Delbert William Hancock, 87 years of age, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at his home with his family by his side. Delbert was born to Clarence and Beulah Hancock in Beggs, Oklahoma on December 19, 1923. He attended school in Gaston, Texas prior to entering the Army Air Corp on January 20, 1943, serving as a Rifle Marksman during World War II. He received the EAME Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Medal for his service to his country. On July 19, 1947, he married Doris Faye Gaut in Bossier City, Louisiana. They have two children. Delbert worked for Sinclair Oil and Gas and then Atlantic Richfield until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Delbert was a kind loving husband, father, Papa, and was a good man with a hard work ethic. He was quite the handyman and could fix or repair anything. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife, Doris, son, Dennis Hancock of San Angelo, daughter, Rita and Gary Rotan of Sweetwater, Texas. Grandchildren Wayne and Stephanie Rotan of Glen Rose, Texas, Rachelle and Rodney Gee of Lorena, Texas, and Kristin and Richard Walton of San Angelo, Texas. He has seven great grandchildren, Reagan and Shelby Rotan, Alexa, Abbie, And Gage Gee, Micah Golden and Selah Walton.
Family visitation will be Thursday, March 24, from 6 until 7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Friday, March 25, at 10:00 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign an online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com
