As we celebrate the season of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ we also mourn the passing of our earthly Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother and Husband Dewey B. Kellar as he slipped away peacefully Saturday evening December 18, 2010.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Brother George Cooper will conduct the services as we celebrate Dad’s life. Guest Book and viewing will be available at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Dewey was born to Ben and Florence Kellar on November 15, 1928 in a log house in Cedar Creek, Arkansas and was the 6th of 9 children. He revisited the area a number of years ago and saw that the old log home was still standing and still serving as someone’s home.
Dewey left Arkansas when he joined the Air Force upon graduating from high school in 1947. He met and married Norma Elizabeth Littlefield while he was stationed at Roswell Air Base in New Mexico. Upon retiring from the service he and Norma moved back to Arkansas where he entered the dairy farm business with his father. After the birth of his second daughter they moved to San Angelo where he began a career with the City of San Angelo in the Parks Department. He retired as horticulturist after 31 years of service.
In 1990 Dewey lost his wife Norma to cancer. They shared 37 years of marriage and had four daughters together.
In 1990 he married Louella Cooper Kellar with whom he shared 20 years of marriage. He leaves behind his devoted wife Lou along with her two sons, Jerry Cooper of Lubbock and George Cooper of San Angelo. He also leaves behind a large and loving family in Arkansas.
He is survived by his daughters Jan Hughes and husband Jim and Brenda Norris and husband Mike of San Angelo, Barbara McWilliams and husband Larry of Barnhart and Charlotte Watrous and husband Lloyd of Buffalo Gap.
“Dad” as he was called by almost all, leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. This earthly world will be forever changed by his passing for each and every one who was fortunate enough to know and love this gentle, always kind and infinitely loving man.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the overwhelming support, prayers, and encouragement they have received from their family, friends, church family as well as the staff of Senior Care of San Angelo and Hospice of San Angelo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace Temple Baptist Church Building Fund or your favorite charity.
Family and friends may sign an online guest book at johnsons-funeralhome.com
Well done, thy good and faithful servant.
