

Dot was born in Delta County, Texas on November 14, 1925, to Jesse and Iva Wilson. The youngest of eight children, Dot lost her mother when she was just seven years old and was raised by her oldest sister. She graduated from high school in Commerce, Texas in 1943. Dorotha met Willie Joe Stooksberry at a community barn dance. On Christmas Eve 1946, they were married in the Baptist parsonage in Commerce. In May 1947, they moved to San Angelo. They were members of Immanuel Baptist Church. Joe and Dot shared 56 years together until Joe’s passing on July 15, 2003.
Dot was a talented seamstress and made many clothes and doll clothes for twin daughters Suzette and Annette. She also made beautiful wedding gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses for their weddings.
An avid Dallas Mavericks fan, Dot rarely missed a televised game. She also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns football games.
Dot loved children. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and daughter, Suzette Menchaca. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Annette and Greg Benson; son-in-law Ricky Mancha; grandchildren Brooke McClellan and husband Nathan of Miles, Tyler Benson and wife Meagan of Fort Worth, and Joe Preston Menchaca of Norfolk, VA; great-grandchildren Sterling Suzette Benson and Cody Lee McClellan; brothers-in-law Louis White of Abilene and Finis Stooksberry and wife Martha of Plano; numerous nieces and nephews; and close family friends Taylor and Mary Sipe, Lydia Menchaca, Rudy and Cathy Menchaca and Bertie Almand.
A celebration of Dot’s life will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with Oneal Westbrook and Bob Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Lee Benson, Rudy Menchaca and David Bearden. Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Sipe and Neal Doss.
Special thanks goes to Audrey Jones and all nurses in the PCU at SACMC, Dr. Michael Blanc and Dr. Abraham Graham who cared for Mama with great skill and compassion.
