Dorothy Mae Bright

April 26, 1927November 7, 2013

Dorothy Bright passed away peacefully on Nov. 7, 2013. She was born April 26, 1927, in La Grange, Texas, to Emil and Edna Boening. She married John R. Bright in Schulenburg, Texas in 1950, and because of his career in the telephone business, they lived in several cities including College Station, Jacksonville, Ark., Irving, Henderson, Stuttgart, Ark., Brownwood, and San Angelo. In 2006, Dorothy was diagnosed with breast cancer which she battled courageously and survived. In 2010, she moved to Kerrville to be closer to her family. Dorothy was a woman of great strength, whose faith and perseverance was an inspiration to all whose lives she touched. She loved people and was blessed with many wonderful friends. She loved working in her flower beds and also playing Bridge and "Hand and Foot". She was very active in her church, Southland Baptist Church and Friendship Sunday School Class. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society for many years. To her adoring grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nana, she was known for her caring heart, as well as her contagious smile and sense of humor. There were always cookies and Blue Bell Ice Cream at Nana's house. She was preceded in death by her husband and fishing buddy, "Rafe"; and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Kaye Lynn Langford and husband Roger; grandchildren Clint and wife Chrystal, Laci, and Blaine Langford; two great-grandsons, Cade and Cason Langford, whom she loved very much; one sister, Joyce Parma; and nieces, a nephew, and several cousins. Special thanks go to the staff of The Sterling House in Kerrville, Texas and to Alamo Hospice of Boerne, Texas. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas and services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Southland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be sent to Southland Baptist Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society , or to a charity of the donor's choice .
