Duwain Edward Smith was, in turn, a young whippersnapper, bereaved father, devoted husband and enlightened elder. But most importantly he was a father, and on March 2, 2015, surrounded by his son and those who loved him, the Lord took Duwain into His arms. He was 68.
Duwain was the tenth child born to Velma Crisp Smith, a home maker, and Benjamin Evert Smith, a jack-of-all-trades. Duwain spent his youth in Mertzon, Texas engaged in shenanigans with his many siblings. He was drafted out of high school at the age of 19 to serve in the Army for the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Specialist and gained a vocation as an electrician. When he returned home he began a family with his former spouse and had a son, Robert, followed quickly by a daughter, Teresa. After his daughter's death, he found joy again with the love of his life, Heidi Smith. Before he retired he was an electrician who worked for West Texas Utilities in Bronte, Aileen's, Professional Metal Finishers, Riddle Electric, Shelby Electric, San Angelo Packing, as well as working for himself at Smith & Son Electric. After his retirement he became a more avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter, and continued to help any and all who came to him with mechanical or electrical problems.
Duwain is survived by his son, Robert Smith and his wife Kristin Smith of Hesperia, Michigan, the daughter of his heart, Louise Smith of Lacombe, Louisiana, his sister’s Cora Boys, of Wilmington, Delaware, Janie Dyson of Barnhart, Texas, Betty Monette of Brownwood, Texas and his brother Billy Dean of San Angelo, Texas; a slew of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and his former spouse Carylon Rhodes of San Angelo, Texas.
Duwain is preceded in death by his precious daughter Teresa, his loving and adored wife Heidi, both his parents, his brothers Greenville Franklin "Hank", William Delbert, Joseph Olander, Benjamin Wilson, Henry Clay "Pete" and his sister Myrtle Kathleen.
