Edelmira Garcia Vasquez

Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Johnsons Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial following in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Emilio Sosa of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate.

Edelmira was born on October 10, 1928, in Del Rio, Texas, to Julio Albert and Angelita Garcia. She married Armando C. Vasquez, Sr. on Oct. 23, 1945, in Del Rio, Texas. Edelmira worked for SAISD for approximately 25 years before her retirement. She was affectionately known as "Mira" by coworkers and friends. She was very proud of her family. She thought her greatest legacy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Armando; brothers Enrique Garcia and Julio Alberto Garcia Jr.; and sisters Elida Hernandez and Evangelina Gutierrez. "Mira" is survived by her brothers, Jose Angel Garcia, Armando Garcia and Eduardo Garcia; sister Emilia Pena; children Armando C. Vasquez Jr. and wife Yvette of San Angelo, Cecilia V. Ford of San Antonio, Hilda V. Lennox and Betty V. Mensch, both of San Angelo; grandchildren Armanda Sanchez of San Angelo, Michelle Flores of Midland, Edna J. Rodriguez of San Antonio, Tim R. Vasquez and wife Charity, Jennifer M. Subia and husband Ricky, Lori A. Quain and husband Mark, all of San Angelo, Joseph F. Ford III and wife Arlene of Austin, Anthony W. Lennox of San Angelo, Marco A. Ford of San Antonio, Tracy Hovarak and husband John of Austin and Andrea Guerrero; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the service will be Tim Vasquez, Anthony Lennox, Ricky Subia, Mark Quain Joseph Ford III and Robert Holden.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Interim Healthcare Hospice, Cindy, Marci, Christina, Maggie, Felix and caregivers Armendina, Leticia and Christy.
