

A graduate of Reagan County (Big Lake) High School, she later worked as a medical secretary. After moving to her home outside of Robert Lee, she attended emergency medical service courses and was certified as a paramedic EMT. She was the first female paramedic in the thirteen county Concho Valley.
She helped start the West Coke County E.M.S. and later was the founding director of the North Runnels Hospital (Winters) E.M.S. Active in the Texas Association of EMTs (TAEMT) she served as state secretary for a number of years. She was selected as the statewide EMT of the Year in 1985. She graduated from Angelo State University in May 1985 and successfully passed her state board examinations in July 1985.
She worked as a registered nurse for many years and was certified in both general nursing practice and emergency nursing. Her knowledge and dedication to excellent patient care led her to a position as a Quality Assurance nurse. Active for many years in the Order of the Eastern Star, she was a past matron and a 50-year member.
She retired from both E.M.S. and professional nursing in 1997 after a long battle with diabetes and heart disease.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothea Helen Wright of Robert Lee as well as a niece and nephew.

Graveside service will be held at Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
