Mother was born on March 5, 1930 to Manuel and Francisca Silvia Baca in Terlingua, Texas. At the age of twelve, her father made the decision to have Mother raised by his uncle Ramiro Arzate. It was here that Mother found love and guidance that would forever mark her life.
Mother married Jose Arballo Medina on January 27, 1952 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Together, they raised nine children in Pecos and ultimately settling in Fort Stockton, Texas. Mother was employed by Holiday Inn and the Fort Stockton Nursing Home as a dietician aide. She was moved with compassion for the nursing home residents who had no visitors. Mother openly admitted that she would secretly pass an extra roll or pastry to the nursing residents.
Mother endured many trials and tribulations that only made her stronger and strengthened her faith in God. She would remind us that God was in control despite what we might think. Her strong work ethic was evident at both home and at work. She did not believe in wasting time. “Lazy” summers were not acceptable in our home. She would quit her job every summer and take the entire family to pick onions. Mother dispensed love and encouragement to all of her children and grandchildren during both happy and difficult times. She stressed the importance of getting an education as she desired that we would have better lives than she did. Mother made it crystal clear that if we wanted to branch out on our own, our high school diploma was the ticket out the door. No one was leaving the house without handing her the diploma! We believed she meant every word she said and we wisely complied. Most importantly, she firmly believed the need to help each other and to lift anyone that needed a “hand-up. Even when money was tight, Mother could be found writing a check to help a worthy cause. She reminded us that someone else could always be found in a worse situation than our own. Mother leaves a legacy of unconditional love and family to help bind us together until we meet again.
Preceding her in death, Mother was reunited with our father, Jose Arballo Medina, her granddaughter Sonya Medina, her daughter Frances Perez, her parents Manuel and Francisca Baca, her stepfather Francisco Lopez, her three brothers Manual Baca, Jr., Juan Baca, Jose Baca, and her two sisters Delma Morales and Christina Morales.
