Esther Louise Jones, age 80, was taken to Heaven on June 7, 2013. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Johnson's Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, at Johnson Street Church of Christ with Tommy King officiating. Burial will be in McKenzie Cemetery near Silver, Texas. Esther was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Silver, Texas to Robert and Mary Allen; she was the youngest of their 12 children. Esther attended Robert Lee High School from 1945-1949 and went on to graduate from San Angelo College in 1951, with a degree in Home Economics. In the same year, she was married to Walter T. Jones at the First Christian Church. During their life together Esther and Walter raised two daughters (Debbie Knous and Kathy Lund) and enjoyed many camping trips across the United States with close friends. Later in life they expanded their adventures to many parts of the world, but always returned to her home of Silver, which remained an important part of her life. Esther was a longtime member of Johnson Street Church of Christ where she served the church as head of the Bereavement Committee for many years. She was also a longtime volunteer of San Angelo Community Hospital and a member of Angelo State University Alumni Association. Esther was an avid animal lover and a loyal supporter of the Humane Society of the United States of America. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, of 55 years. She is survived by her loving family: daughters Debbie Knous (Jerry) of Midland and Dr. Kathy Lund of Austin; grandchildren Dr. Jeremy Knous (fiance Mickie Rzepka) of Saginaw, Mich. and D'Lynn Price (Cooper) of San Angelo; and great-grandchildren Seth Price and Sydney Price. She leaves behind sisters Cleone Sanders and Nita Archer (Bill), all of whom reside in San Angelo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the family and friends who kept us in their thoughts and prayers during this time. Our special thanks to Edna Rangel who administered great care to her in her last months and to the employees of Hospice of San Angelo. In lieu of flowers, we ask that contribution be made to Johnson Street Church of Christ Rust Street Ministry, Hospice of San Angelo, and Concho Valley Paws.
