On December 19, 1934, Eunice Garcia Montelongo entered into this earthly world. On August 10, 2023, Eunice walked in to her heavenly home, being received by many of her family members and her Lord and Savior. Visitation and Funeral Services are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Visitation is set for Tuesday August 15th at 6:00 p.m - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Wednesday August 16th at 10:00 a.m., with burial at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Eunice was born to Cruz Garcia and Simona Lara Garcia. At the age of 3 months, her father passed away and because her mother was so young and would one day remarry, his request was that she be raised by her grandparents, Eugenio and Eloisa Lara. Eunice lived a life of being spoiled by not only her grandparents but by her aunts and uncles. Some of Eunice’s fondest memories were the times when some of her uncles would come home from work trips and made sure they had the first gift for her. The bond between her cousins developed to that of siblings until the end of her life.
Eunice attended Sam Houston Elementary and Edison Jr. High School until the 9th grade. She began helping her grandmother by working at a clothing store on S. Chadbourne, cleaning homes, and later at a dry cleaners. On June 9, 1965, Eunice began as a sewing operator for Levi Strauss & Co. She worked 28 years, working herself up to becoming a much admired supervisor. She was very proud of the work she accomplished and the long lasting relationships she developed with her co-workers. There was never a time that you would go into a store or restaurant, and she would run into someone she worked with.
As a young lady, she met the love of her life, Paul J. Montelongo, Sr. She waited for him while he was serving in the Army in Korea, and on June 7, 1953 Eunice and Paul were married in San Angelo, Texas. Married for 70 years, they created a life full of adventure. Their love for each other was evident in everything that they did. Blessed with a son, Paul Montelongo, Jr. (Dora) of San Angelo and a daughter Carmen Reyes (Louie) of Artesia, New Mexico, their quiver soon became full with their five beloved grandchildren: Paul Daniel Montelongo of San Angelo, Veronica Reyes of Artesia, NM, Victoria Lopez of Midlothian, Texas, Debbie Kinnibrugh (Cole) of Artesia, NM, and Luis Daniel Reyes (Beki) of Omaha, NE. Eunice would soon lavish her grandchildren with many memories for them to carry. Her legacy of being the fun "Mimo" will always carry a special place in their hearts. Never to forget the trips to the movies, the Jurassic Park ride, Schlitterbahn, Splash Mountain, days at the lake, and the all too favorite: the beaches of Corpus Christi. Her love for them was always unconditional. The clan grew for Eunice with 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Fidel Garcia and Eddie Boisse, her sisters Erlinda Allen and Inez Sease. She is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren, numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
