Floyd was born December 13, 1929 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Floyd H. and Clara May Petitt. He grew up in Satanta, Kansas and graduated in 1946 from Satanta High School. Following graduation from college he met the love of his life Margaret Stansberry and they were married May 10, 1958 in La Feria and had 50 wonderful years before she passed away in 2009. He worked in the oifields for Exxon and Texas Eastern for 34 years before retiring. He was always an active member of his church, helping with young children and serving as a deacon at Northside Baptist Church in Fort Stockton, Texas and First Baptist Church of La Feria, Texas. Floyd and Margaret moved to San Angelo in 1999 and became active members of Immanuel Baptist Church serving as a deacon and then deacon emeritus.
Floyd was a people person, he never met a stranger. He loved to visit with people and always helped anybody when he could. He was a volunteer at Baptist Memorials until his health no longer permitted him. While health permitted he loved woodworking.
He is survived by a son, Floyd Conley Petitt and daughter-in-law Jan; grandchildren Melissa Hogg and husband Cooper, Bryan Petitt, Cody Rodriguez and Becca Gilbert and husband Braxton; and one very special great-granddaughter Micaiah Isabelle Gilbert.
Floyd’s loving, caring, gentle spirit for all his family and friends will be missed very much.
