Frankie was born one of seven children to Lewis and Fanny Young (Newton) in Water Valley, Texas on March 22, 1921. She married James W. “Dub” Edwards on March 15, 1946. He preceded her in death in 2002. She worked at what is now Mathis Field during World War II as stenographer in the Human Resources Dept. and then as stenographer at the Santa Fe Freight Depot, where she met Dub. They worked side-by-side for many years until their retirement in 1983. Frankie was very active in what used to be Day Memorial United Methodist Church, where she greatly enjoyed her twice-weekly quilting club and numerous activities with her neighbors at Rio Concho Terrace. Her family treasures the many quilts that came off of those frames.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Nigel; daughter, Cindy Brusenhan; brothers, Tommy Young, Lewis “Buzz” Young, and William “Diddle” Young and sisters, Margie Yarbrough, Ruth Beaver, and Mina Wrege.
Frankie is survived by daughter Tonja Roe and husband Grady; granddaughter Allyson Roe Crenshaw and husband Terry all of San Angelo; grandsons Brad Brusenhan of Dallas, and Brian Brusenhan and wife Amber of Hot Springs Village, AR. Great-grandsons are T.J. Crenshaw of San Angelo, and Austin and Cole Brusenhan of Dallas. She is also survived by numerous special nieces, nephews, and friends.
We so appreciate the care and wonderful meals provided to Frankie and the other residents by McGowan’s and the care provided by the dedicated staff at Rio Concho Terrace, and then the amazing staff at Park Plaza Nursing Center, where Frankie lived after she was no longer able to live alone. We will never forget the faithful pastoral staff at First United Methodist Church for their frequent visits, gifts, and ministry to Frankie, both at the Terrace and Park Plaza, after she was no longer able to attend church services.
Graveside services will be conducted by Gary Phillips and Ed Walls at Water Valley Pioneer Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 16th at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Rio Concho Terrace at 403 Rio Concho Drive, San Angelo, TX 76903; the Family Council of Park Plaza Nursing Center at 2210 Howard, San Angelo, 76901; or a favorite charity.
